Kagamiko Pond / Kinkakuji Temple
Kagamiko Pond is located in the center of Kinkakuji Temple. As its name suggests, Kagamiko Pond is known for its quiet surface that reflects the Golden Pavilion like a mirror, especially on sunny days when there is no wind, and the “upside-down Golden Pavilion” can be seen reflected in the water. Kagamiko Pond is said to have been modeled after the Shippo Pond in the Pure Land world. The pond covers an area of approximately 6,600 square meters, and is surrounded by islands such as Reed Island, Crane Island, and Turtle Island, and the entire garden is designed as a “pond garden” with the pond at its center. The garden is designed as a “pond garden,” with the entire garden revolving around a pond. Furthermore, Mt. Kinugasa is used as a borrowed landscape, allowing visitors to enjoy a beautiful harmony of nature and architecture, reflecting the changing scenery of the four seasons, with cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snow in winter, offering a different beauty each time they visit.
