Kyodo / Kiyomizu-dera
The “Kyodo” of Kiyomizu-dera Temple is one of the most important facilities in the temple, and is used to house Buddhist scriptures. This hall has served as a center for the spread and maintenance of Buddhist teachings. The sutras stored in the sutra hall are a compilation of Buddhist teachings, precepts, and practices, and are central to the faith. The sutra hall at Kiyomizu-Dera has been renovated and rebuilt several times throughout its history, and the current building is believed to have been reconstructed during the Edo period. In particular, when the temple was damaged by fire or war, it was rebuilt with the support of local people and the congregation. Inside the Kyodo, many sutras and Buddhist statues are enshrined, reminding visitors of the depth of Buddhist teachings and the weight of tradition. The architectural style of the temple is also noteworthy, with beautiful wooden carvings and detailed decorations that show the high level of craftsmanship of the artisans.
