Nene-no-Michi

Nene-no-Michi (The Path of Nene) is a beautiful stone-paved path located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, and is a popular spot for tourists to stroll. It is named after Nene (Kita no Mandokoro), the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who spent her later years in this area. The path is situated to the west of Kodaiji Temple and extends from Maruyama Park towards Kiyomizu Temple. Along the path, you will find historical temples such as Kodaiji and Entokuin, charming inns, and sweet shops, allowing visitors to enjoy the quintessential Kyoto atmosphere. The picturesque stone paving and seasonal natural beauty are especially appealing. During the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, the scenery becomes even more stunning. A recommended activity is to ride in a rickshaw and listen to the guide's explanations while sightseeing. After Hideyoshi's death, Nene became a nun and took the name 'Kodaiin,' establishing Kodaiji Temple. Kodaiji Temple was built to honor Hideyoshi's memory and reflects Nene's deep faith and affection. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, offering beautiful views, especially in the temple's garden. In summer, the lush greenery provides a cool atmosphere for pleasant walks. In autumn, the vibrant red and yellow leaves transform Nene-no-Michi into a picturesque scene, with the nighttime illuminations adding a magical touch. In winter, when the path is covered with snow, you can enjoy the serene and beautiful scenery in a quiet atmosphere.
