Taho-to / Kinosaki Onsen
The Taho-to (pagoda) of Onsen-ji Temple in Kinosaki Onsen is an important cultural asset with a traditional Japanese architectural style. Located within the precincts of Onsenji Temple, which watches over Kinosaki Onsen, this multi-purpose pagoda has become a symbol of the temple while being surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings. The origin of the Dabotou dates back to the late Heian Period in Japan, and was originally built as a symbolic structure to represent the teachings of Buddhism. The pagoda is known for its unique shape with two layers. The first layer is square and the second layer is circular, a contrasting design that is said to express the Buddhist view of the universe. The roof, with its beautifully curved hinoki bark thatch, is in elegant harmony with the natural surroundings. Today, the pagoda has been preserved after several restorations and attracts many visitors for its architectural beauty and historical value. The pagoda is surrounded by seasonal scenery, with cherry blossoms in spring, greenery in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snow in winter attracting visitors.
