Kyoto Imperial Palace / Kyoto Gyoen (national garden)

https://kyoto-gosho.kunaicho.go.jp

The Kyoto Imperial Palace was the residence and workplace of successive emperors and members of the imperial family from 1337 (Kenmu 4) until 1869 (Meiji 2). After the Heian period, it functioned as the inner palace and court, where important ceremonies and events were held. It is nearly synonymous with the current Imperial Palace in Tokyo and is managed by the Kyoto Office of the Imperial Household Agency. The existing buildings are part of the Ansei-period palace, constructed in 1855 (Ansei 2). Architectural styles from the Heian period onward can be seen in structures such as the Shishinden (Hall for State Ceremonies), Seiryoden (Emperor's Residence), Kogosho (Court Building), and Gakumonjo (Imperial Study Hall). The Kyoto Gyoen, located within the grounds of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, offers beautiful gardens that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.
