Shusuitei / Kyoto Gyoen (national garden)
Shusuitei is a tea house located within the Kyoto Imperial Garden in Kyoto City, built during the Edo period. It was once part of the Kujō family’s villa. Constructed in the late 18th century by the Kujō family, the name "Shusuitei" means "a place to gather greenery," symbolizing the Japanese aesthetic that values harmony with nature. Shusuitei is a two-story structure designed to offer beautiful views of the Kyoto Imperial Garden from its upper level. The building itself features elegant wooden architecture with an interior that is both simple and refined. It is also known for its harmonious integration with the surrounding garden, allowing visitors to enjoy the seasonal beauty of nature. Shusuitei is one of the few remaining Edo-period buildings within the Kyoto Imperial Garden and is considered an important cultural heritage site in Kyoto. It is now open to the public, hosting tea ceremonies and cultural events, offering visitors an opportunity to experience Japan's traditional culture and history.
