

Tomb of Queen Sojun / Philosopher's Path
Princess Sojun was the tenth daughter of Prince Sadakage of Fushimi Palace, adopted by Emperor Kogaku, and served as the head priestess (abbess) of Reikanji Temple. Reikanji Temple, where the princess served as the gatekeeper for generations, is still located to the north of Queen Sojun's Tomb. Queen Sojun entered Reiganji Temple in 1823, attained Buddhist attainment, and assumed the Dharma name Sojun and the Dogen (Buddhist priesthood) name Hozan. After that, she devoted herself to missionary activities as the head priestess of Reikanji Temple, and in 1868 she was allowed to wear the purple robe. He died in 1891 at the age of 76. Her Majesty's grave is located along the Philosopher's Path and is surrounded by a white wall. The surrounding area is quiet and serene, and in autumn the maple trees around the grave are said to be beautiful in their autumn colors.
