Shijo Ohashi (Shijo Bridge), originally constructed during the Heian period, has a long history. It has undergone numerous renovations and reconstructions, and the current bridge was completed in 1935 (Showa 10). The present Shijo Bridge is made of reinforced concrete, measuring approximately 80 meters in length and 22 meters in width. It features wide sidewalks, making it safe for pedestrians and cyclists. Pontocho: Located to the west of the bridge, Pontocho is a narrow alley filled with traditional restaurants and izakayas, offering a quintessentially Kyoto atmosphere.Minami-za: On the east side of the bridge stands Minami-za, Japan's oldest theater, where traditional performances such as Kabuki are staged. Kamo River (Kamogawa) The Kamo River is a beautiful river that flows north to south through Kyoto City, beloved by both locals and tourists. Shijo Bridge is one of the bridges that spans this river. Noryoyuka: During the summer, traditional restaurants and cafes along the Kamo River set up riverside terraces where diners can enjoy meals while listening to the gentle sounds of the river.Kamogawa Odori: Held every spring, the Kamogawa Odori is a traditional dance performance at the Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater, attracting many tourists. The Kamo River has been a crucial point for transportation and water routes since ancient times, deeply intertwined with the lives and culture of Kyoto's people.
