White Snake Mound / Kinkakuji Temple

The White Snake Mound, located in the precincts of Kinkakuji Temple, is a stone pagoda built on an island in the center of the pond “Anminzawa. This mound enshrines a white snake as a guardian of the Saionji family. The white snake has long been regarded as a messenger of Benten-sama, the god of water. For this reason, the “White Snake Mound” is known as a power spot for luck in money and fortune. In addition, Anminzawa is the source of water for Kagayako Pond, which has a history of being used as a place to pray for rain.
