Kameyama Imperial Mausoleum / Tenryu-ji

The Kameyama Imperial Mausoleum is the mausoleum of the 90th Emperor Kameyama, square in format (Hokkedo style), and is located alongside the Saganan-ryo, the mausoleum of his father, Emperor Gosaga. Emperor Kameyama (1249-1305), the third son of Emperor Gosaga, whose mother was Saionjiji (Grand Imperial Household), ascended to the throne in 1259, abdicated to Emperor Go-Uda in 1274, and ruled in the imperial palace until 1287. Her remains were cremated and distributed to Jokongoin Temple in Sagano, Kameyama-den Hokke-do Temple, Nanzenji Temple, and Koyasan Kongobuji Temple, but Kameyama-den Hokke-do Temple is considered to be the present mausoleum. In Kameyama Park adjacent to Tenryuji Temple, there is a cremation mound of Emperor Kameyama, which is known as the place where the emperor was cremated.
