The bell tower in the precincts of Jojakkoji Temple was built in 1642 by the fourth generation of the temple's founder, Nissen Shonin Koshoin. However, the bell was lost due to metal offerings during the Pacific War, so it was newly cast in 1973 under the acoustic design of Dr. Ichiro Aoki, a professor at Kyoto Institute of Technology. The new bell was designed to have the traditional musical scale of “Koritsu Kibane”.
