Daihojo / Chion-in temple

The Daihojo is one of the most important buildings in Chion-in. The building is used primarily as a place for the priests to perform their duties, and also serves as a space where Buddhist memorial services and ceremonies are held. The interior of the Daihojo, together with its prestigious sliding door paintings and magnificent garden, creates a solemn atmosphere. While retaining the architectural style of the Momoyama period, the Daihojo was extensively renovated during the Edo period. The interior is decorated with magnificent fusuma paintings by the Kano school, which showcase the best of Japanese art. The garden adjacent to the building attracts visitors with its tranquility and harmony. Chion-in's Daihojo is widely known not only for its religious significance, but also for its historical and artistic value.
