Shoro-do / Nageire-do

Shoro-do is one of the historical buildings of Mt. Mitoku, a beautiful structure standing quietly in the precincts of the temple. Since ancient times, this bell tower hall has played an important role in the culture of Shugendo (mountain asceticism) and Buddhist ceremonies in Mt. Mitoku. As the name suggests, the bell tower hall is a hall for hanging a bell, and the sound of the bell echoing in Mt. Mitoku used to tell time to worshippers and ascetic practitioners, and also served as a spiritual regulator. The hall is a wooden structure, and its design incorporates traditional Japanese architectural styles, creating a simple yet solemn atmosphere. In particular, it is built in harmony with the surrounding natural environment, forming a tranquil space that offers peace of mind to visitors.
