Hozugawa River cruise / Arashiyama
The Hozu River Landing is the terminus for the Hozu River cruise, and is known as a place where visitors can enjoy “cormorant fishing,” a summer tradition. Arashiyama's cormorant fishing is a traditional fishing method with a history of more than 1,000 years, in which cormorants are manipulated by cormorant masters to catch sweetfish and other river fish. Held annually from July 1 to September 23, the cormorant fishing under a bonfire creates a fantastic atmosphere that attracts many tourists.
