Wa no Yagura / Himeji Castle

Himeji Castle's “Wa no Yagura” is a double-tiered, two-story corner turret structure with a hon-gawara roof, constructed between 1601 and 1609, and designated as an Important Cultural Property in 1931. This turret was built to strengthen the defensive functions of Himeji Castle and was an important part of the castle architecture. Also in 1943, the tower of Wa and the stone wall under the earthen wall to the east of the tower were repaired. It still retains its beautiful appearance today, showing visitors the high level of architectural skill of the time.
